Spanish Climbing with Spirit of Adventure

Two hours inland from Malaga in Southern Spain lies 'the real Spain', small farms, ancient terracotta and whitewashed villages clinging to inaccessible mountainsides, a sure indication of a turbulent past. It is here that we find deep limestone gorges and high mountain crags, a beautiful and remote playground for those who love wild places. It is this area that we come to explore in the warm spring and autumn weather - when it is still cold and damp in the UK!

The great limestone gorge El Chorro, carved out over thousands of years, leaves an amazing array of steep rock walls providing the ideal location for bolted routes of all grades. A visit to El Chorro is not complete unless you take time out to test your nerve on the King's Walkway, made famous by the film 'Von Ryan's Express', a concrete walkway which follows the gorge, 'stapled' to the wall high above the river.

Spirit of Adventure has been running highly successful climbing courses in Andalucia for the last 5 years, providing a great opportunity to improve your climbing standard, practise your leading or even take your first step into leading skills. Whether you are leading E2 or just starting to experience the excitement of rock climbing, this course has something to offer. Receive expert coaching on the big routes of El Chorro or the sports routes on one of the many local crags. All these routes offer fantastic climbing on perfect limestone. Meanwhile those just starting out may be making their way up 300 metres of V. Diff. grade rock or taking that first step into leading under the watchful eye of their instructor. Reaching the top at around 1200 metres gives a deep sense of satisfaction that can only be experienced by summitting a real mountain!! Visiting a different area each day provides climbing for all abilities, the group is split to give everybody the opportunity to gain maximum benefit and enjoyment from the course, whatever their ability.

Our base will be near the old Spanish town of Rhonda, we will stay in chalet type accommodation on a self-catering basis.
